L/A Arts invites you to follow Lolie and Nico on their journey from DR Congo to a Ugandan refugee camp and then to resettlement in a Maine winter.
Their story, told in the book Kende! Kende! Kende!, was co-created in Lewiston/Auburn and Portland by community members from DR Congo, Congo Brazzaville, Rwanda, Burundi, Angola, and Iraq.
The book will be celebrated in Auburn, Maine’s Festival Plaza as part of the Beautiful Blackbird Children’s Book Festival.
The Marvel of Languages‘ multilingual students will perform the book in Arabic, English, French, Kinyarwanda, Lingala, Portuguese, and Swahili.
I’m Your Neighbor Books will give each family a free copy of the book, and invite kids to jump into the snowy photo booth and help assemble a giant puzzle of Africa.
Auburn Public Library will invite families to follow the Kende! Kende! Kende! Multilingual StoryWalk along the river to re-experience Lolie and Nico’s journey.
Kende! Kende! Kende! was published by Child’s Play International who distributes this and other multicultural books from their Auburn warehouse.
