Welcoming Library at the Social Justice Street Fair

Maine Initiatives invited I’m Your Neighbor Books to exhibit the Welcoming Library at their Social Justice Street Fair in Portland, Maine.

Kate Cutko and Kirsten Cappy of I’m Your Neighbor Books had wonderful conversations with attendees about the Welcoming Library’s ability to create productive dialogue about immigration.

We were especially honored to have had conversations with the New England Arab American Organization, Portland Public Schools, The Greater Portland Immigrant Welcome Center, Maine Center for Grieving Children, Coffee by Design, and others.

We were pleased to host a doll from the Refugee Dolls that represents Fatima from the picture book I’m New Here by Anne Sibley O’Brien (Charlesbridge).

Children’s Museum and Theater of Maine at Social Justice Street Fair

A highlight of the day was hosting the Children’s Museum and Theater of Maine actors for a performance of the Welcoming Library picture books That’s NOT How You Do It and Ice in the Jungle by Arian Hofmann-Maniyar (Child’s Play).  The director of the theater, Reba Short wrote the Reader’s Theater script for Arian’s picture books.
